Light and Shadows Activity Follow-up

Now that you have explored light and shadows online using different shapes to create different shadows, answer one of these questions on the class blog to show what you know. Have a parent or guardian help you with this project.

1. Gather two different objects around your home and a flashlight. Put these objects in front of a wall. Put the flashlight in front of the objects to see what shadows they make. How is this similar to the shadows that the sun makes when objects are placed in front of its light? Use what you have learned in class about the sun making shadows to answer this question.

2. Gather two objects around your home and a flashlight. Put these objects in front of a wall. Do you already see a shadow? This means there is light coming from somewhere else in your house. It may be the sun's light or a light that is on in the room already. Talk about your discoveries in your blog post.

Good luck with your light and shadow discoveries!

Student Discussion: Project 1

Congratulations! You have made it to the class blog to discuss the questions from our class website. I would like you to pick one question to talk about. Have a parent or caretaker help you write the words you would like to say. Think BIG. Here are the questions again just in case:

  1. How can we use addition and subtraction in real life?
  2. How can we think about addition and subtraction in different ways other than the ways shown to us by the websites?
  3. Why do we need to learn how to add and subtract?
Please post a thoughtful response. All ideas are welcome. You are encouraged to comment on a friend's response if you so choose.

Three Reasons I Use Facebook

Three reasons I use Facebook:
1. To keep in touch with people I wouldn't otherwise keep in touch with.
2. To keep in touch with people I actually do care about.
3. For entertainment (i.e. viewing pictures of my friend's new little baby girl making hilarious faces).
